The University of Liverpool

This is a classic true single fuchsia.   Very easy to grow.   The tube and sepals are white flushed pink.     The corolla is claret and flares into a perfect bell.  It is a true single and extremely vigorous.     It produces two, sometimes three flowers in each leaf axil.   Once it starts to flower, which is very early, it  flowers until late autumn.   It has a very unusual trait. It is the only cultivar  I know, apart from Triphyllas and some Species, to produce side shoots with three pairs of leaves instead of the usual two. Normaly three leaf side shoots only appear on old ripe wood after a winter rest.   Study the photo to see the amount of flowers on a single branch.   Lax growth make it perfect for basket work.  It needs to be stopped at every two pair of leaves otherwise it can grow too large.  It will flower early in July if required and is a blaze of colour until cut down by frost.  An excellent one for the beginner and showman alike. This cultivar was dedicated to and named after  'The University of Liverpool'.     Semi lax. A must for anyone who loves basket work.    It took three B.I.S's  in the first two years of release.  Almost the perfect fuchsia.
